About 11 years ago I went from waist length hair to a chin length bob in one sitting. I donated the hair to Locks of Love. The stylist was hesitant to do such a drastic change, but I was confident about what I wanted. I felt great after it was done. I looked totally different. It was such a change that my mother drove past me when she came to pick me up from the salon (at the time I was too young drive). My only piece of advise is to be 100% sure that you want to cut your hair. Pick a great short style and ROCK IT!!! Confidence always looks good.

I have, its was at my waste n cut it to my shoulders. it was a very wierd feeling, cuz all the wieght or your hair is gone, the most terrifying part of it was trying to wear it in a scrunchy

i've had long hair since i was 5 years old and the first time i had it cut real short was when demi moore's movie ghost came out. everyone wanted to have that kind of hair. when i came out of the parlor, it felt great and light! i was thinking how come i'd never done it before...it's a great experience but i won't do it again because i know i look better with my hair long.

I had hair a little longer than half way down my back, and had it cut up to my chin. It was scary, just because of change, but it was actually refreshing. I felt like i got rid of a lot of things from my past, not just my hair. It was like a new start! I say go for it, it grows back so fast anyway!

A little scary, but empowering at the same time, I mean, it's HAIR it shouldn't control YOU. And it grows back.

i did when i was little and it wasnt terrifying it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders and my head felt lighter.

Humorous now, terrifying then. I had just gotten my hair to reach my elbows and out of no where, I drove to the Hair Salon and Had it all chopped off to above my shoulders. I have no idea why all I have to blame it on is PMS. Don't do it if you're menstraul and make sure you're sure!! It took me forever to grow it back out and of course now that it's finally here again, i'm thinking about getting it cut. But I'm gonna take my own advice and think about it for a while : )

I did back in July. I actually gave my hair to Locks of Love. I was surprised at how emotional I felt giving my hair away. I'm not sure if that was because of who I was giving my hair to, or just the fact that I was cutting of 12". The response from everyone was great. In fact, my hair is starting to grow out again so I am off to get it cut this afternoon!

I cut my hair from waist length to a length above my neck. It was drastic, but it felt really good. I have very thick hair so all this weight holding down my head was lifted. My hairdresser was hesitant to cut my hair so drastically. It worked out because I was able to donate my hair to a good cause (children with cancer).

One spring when I was in my twenties I woke up one morning and just didn't want to do anything with my waist length hair. No brushing, no washing, no fussing with it at all! Luckily I had the day off.

Around noon I worked up my courage and made an appointment for that evening, at a salon which had a good reputation. All I told them was that I had long hair, and wanted a shorter style. I then proceeded to spend the afternoon sipping margaritas at a little club nearby. Needless to say I was buzzing when I walked into the salon.

It turned out the manager was going to be my stylist. We agreed on a jaw-length, semi-shaggy, easy care style. After that I closed my eyes and put myself into his hands. He started by brushing and braiding my hair. Although I was feeling no pain, I was very aware of each strand of hair being snipped. As he was washing my hair I must have fallen asleep because all of a sudden I was blasted awake by him rinsing my hair with very cold water. After that he kept me talking so I would stay awake. I did keep my eyes closed the entire time he was cutting and combing and snipping and styling.

Finally he said it was time to see the new me. I don't know which stunned me more when I looked in the mirror, my new short hair, or seeing him leaning over my shoulder asking to take the me out for dinner and drinks. He wanted to see other people's reactions to my new look.

After what he had just done for me I could not say no. He took me back to the place where I had spent the afternoon. While we shared some dinner and wine, we had a very nice conversation. I learned he was recently divorced, had two young daughters, and was a very caring person. A few of the people who worked at the club didn't recognize me at first. Neither did a couple friends who came in. All in all he turned it into a very pleasant experience, topping it off with a goodnight kiss I couldn't forget.

Early the next week he called me and asked if I would like to color Easter Eggs with him and his daughters the following Saturday. I told him it sounded like fun, and he said he would pick me up when he finished work. So we drove out to his house, colored the Easter Eggs, had some supper, played a few kids games, and got the girls into bed. As he handed me a glass of wine it then dawned on me, I had been seduced into spending the night at his place in the country. He did give me the choice of his bed, without, or with him. Did I mention I couldn't say "No" to him? We were dating and together for almost five years after that Easter.

Slowly we let my hair grow out to shoulder length again.
